Today's Interview: operator

Q: Please give a short bio of yourself for our readers

i am a girl (many in dland chat think i'm a boy), i am cute and subtle (!), hilarious and yet oh so mean. shy and insecure, but apparently i project a confident attitude. also, i lean towards extreme states of depression but bounce back into really exciting happiness. do i have hobbies, maybe you want to know about my hobbies? i collect paper and i dance a lot in my room and recently acquired a hula hoop and i've been practicing daily.

Q: Why did you choose this username?

i had a different diary before this one: kohi-futats, but i got tired of how depressing it was and stopped writing and deleted all it's entries; sort of a cleansing thing. then someone introduced me to a great song by James, the band which has the lines: "operator, operator the lines are down and i'm a traitor, a traitor to a beautiful cause....." - it's a beautiful song and so i took the name, operator.

Q: Why do you keep a diary online?

why why why. i don't know, because i can type faster than i can write, because my readers help me with my problems, because readers make things seem much more light hearted than they seem when i'm feeling awful things. i like playing with the layout, i like seeing which google hits i get, i guess all the regular reasons. i think also, that i really like being part of the diaryland community, which is pretty open, welcoming and etc.

Q: How important do you think a layout is for a web-based diary? Would you also comment on yours?

layouts are not that important to me, they attract me to diaries, but i read some diaries that are excellent and use the diaryland templates. as far as making or breaking the diary, i don't buy it, it's more about content as far as i'm concerned. i change mine so often just to experiment, out of boredom and because i like variety. mostly i keep mine quite simple as i'm not very talented html-wise.

Q: What kinds of things, people, or situations scare you, or make you uncomfortable?

i dislike people who are not sincere. god how much i cannot stand that and when i can feel someone is being dishonest in front of me, i'll just walk away. uncomfortable though....hmmm, it takes me a bit of time to feel comfortable meeting new people but once i open up i'm all sorts of fun i think. i feel intimidated on a dance floor, that's my big obsession lately: i want to dance!!! situations where i end up in a club where everyone is dancing really well make me feel sad that i'm not comfortable enough to dance too.

Q: Those that know you best -- how would they describe you?

i think they would say that i tend to be a bit antagonistic but i'm actually quite genuine and generous overall. intelligent! funny!

Q: You have a very unique writing style -- using few words but making a large impact -- how would you describe it?

i think my writing is sparse but to the point. english majors are like that, it's all you learn at school: don't waste words, say what you want to say and be consise, which is what i think i do. in speaking, conversations whatever, i'm also very to the point, small talk bores me, i'd rather be talking about something real than about nothing for the sake of having a conversation.

Q: At Interview the last question is for fun -- If you could be anyone for twenty-four hours who would it be and why?

i would be...an older version of me? the only thing keeping me from really wanting that is because it'd be nice to not know what to expect. no wait....i'd rather be brittney spears i think. no no no no, i'm a terrible dancer, really inhibited, so i'd like to be a person who is a really great dancer so that i could see how easy and fun it is and then when the 24 hours are up, i'd be michelle again, but with new found knowledge on how to dance.
